Birmingham Airport Taxis - Fares, Distances and Where to Find Them

Birmingham Airport is located in the West Midlands region of England, and is considered to be one of the United Kingdom’s most important airports. Over nine million passengers make use of the destination every year. The airport is situated nearby the National Exhibition Center, Sheldon and Marston Green, and only 10 km from the city of Birmingham. Areas surrounding Birmingham include Solihull, Coventry, Redditch, Dudley and Wolverhampton. There are many facilities and transport options in Birmingham, which include taxi services. Taxi services are quite popular with many passengers, even though they are more expensive than bus or train services.

There is now a large and combined area for check-in and security procedures, and one large arrival area. Passengers who wish to continue their journey from the airport by taxi will find a taxi rank outside the arrivals area.

Birmingham Taxi services are provided by the black cabs, which are familiar on the streets of London. Passengers should always go to the taxi rank to hire one of these taxis, and not accept any invitation from a driver in the arrivals area. The drivers of the black cabs will be waiting at their vehicles in the taxi rank. Although taxi services are more expensive than buses and trains, they are convenient in many ways. They can take you directly to the doorstep of your residence or hotel, and the driver can assist you with the loading of your luggage. Depending on traffic, they are also a quick form of transport to any destination you choose. Taxis can drive shorter distances to areas within Birmingham, or longer distances, to towns and cities surrounding the Birmingham area, such as Manchester, Swindon and Stoke-on-Trent. London is about 185 km from Birmingham Airport, and is about a two-hour journey by car.

Taxis in England work on a metered system, although there can be some popular journeys which have a set fare. A meter in a taxi is the device, which records the length in kilometers of your journey, and the taxi fare is then calculated accordingly. Passengers should ensure that their taxi’s meter is turned on and in working condition, and are also advised to discuss the taxi fare with the driver before leaving the airport. It is more difficult to argue the price once you have already arrived at your destination.

Although the meter calculates the taxi journey’s price, there could be additional costs when travelling by taxi, which will not be included in the meter’s price. These additional costs may be for luggage loaded, the amount of passengers travelling in the taxi, travel late at night or on Sundays and public holidays or for animals transported in the taxi. Your taxi driver can give you more information as to which costs will be applicable to your journey.

Taxis are available from various areas in Birmingham if you want to travel to the airport. There are usually taxi ranks at all the main train and bus stations in the city, and at other major public or tourist locations. There is a taxi rank at the Birmingham International Train Station, which is just a short distance from the airport. This station is connected to Birmingham Airport by the AirRail Link, which will take you there in just 90 seconds. Taxis can otherwise be hailed from the street, or called for an arrangement to come and collect you from your location.

Besides buses, trains and taxis, bicycles are also quite a popular form of transport in London and Birmingham. There is a cycle route, which leads to the airport over the A45 from Solihull. Cyclists can store their bikes at the Left Luggage facility at the airport, or use the free short-term cycle parking nearby the departures area of the terminal. Further information on cycle paths is available on Birmingham Airport’s official website, at https://www.birminghamairport.co.uk/.

The black cabs are a twenty-four hour service, and each taxi can carry up to five passengers and their luggage. Some of the taxis are even larger, carrying six passengers, and some are equipped for passengers in wheelchairs. If you have very awkward luggage that will not fit into an ordinary taxi, it may be better to hire a minibus or some form of private transfer. The black cabs are the only taxis that are licensed to provide services at the airport, and they accept all major credit cards. A receipt will be provided for your payment. Their contact number is 0121 782 3744.

Further information on the Birmingham taxis can be found at the Visitors Center or information desks in the arrivals area.
